HOLIDAY & TRAVEL SHOWS GROWTH IN 2009

John Fish Exhibitions Ltd announces today the details of The Holiday & Travel Shows for 2009. The exhibitions, scheduled to take place in both Manchester Central (16-18 January) and Glasgow's SECC (13-15 February), will feature new and improved exhibits and aims to build on its position as the UK's leading holiday and travel exhibition.

With talks of recession hitting the headlines, the case for exhibiting is made even stronger as it is anticipated that the forthcoming shows will beat last year's attendance figures of more 120,000 visitors, while providing exhibitors with an ideal opportunity to target an affluent and holiday orientated public.

John Fish, managing director and founder of the Holiday & Travel Shows, comments; “There is no doubt that consumer purse strings are a little tighter this year, however research shows that our shows remain as popular as ever as consumers value the opportunity to meet exhibitors face to face to discuss their holiday options before spending their hard earned money.”

Now celebrating its 17th consecutive year in Manchester (11 years in Glasgow) the shows are an established event in the diary of the discerning traveler. As an additional support to exhibitors, John Fish Exhibitions is finalising details of an integrated marketing campaign which will include advertising in leading national daily and weekly media as well as trade and regional publications.

Already more than 300 hundred exhibitors from nearly 50 countries have signed up to attend the shows and it is forecast that more than 800 exhibitors from 100 countries will be represented in total. The exhibitors range from tour operators and travel agents, to airlines, tourist information organisations and places of special interest.

John Fish continues; “It is important to keep evolving in the competitive travel sector and we work hard to ensure our exhibitions reflect the latest trends.

“We are already seeing trends towards holidaying in the UK, while the classic resorts in Europe and the US also remain popular. This year has also seen a resurgence of rail journeys as some consumers begin to consider the environmental impact of some holidays.”

As a further opportunity for exhibitors, this year's Holiday & Travel Shows will feature extended Travel Talks Theatres in which exhibitors will be able to personally present, or show videos, giving details on various travel insights and ideas, as well as give visitors the opportunity to learn and ask questions about specific holiday destinations.

The Travel Temptations Zones will also be returning to give exhibitors the chance to show off the wealth of cultural, musical or culinary delights from their regions or countries. The Travel Temptation Zones were particularly popular as they gave visitors a fantastic opportunity to experience the different cultures through music, singing and dancing, art and craft displays and regional food and wine tasting - before they book their holidays.

John Fish continues; “Although the internet remains popular for consumers to bag a bargain, in a tight market those looking at the more expensive holiday options prefer to discuss their options face to face with an agent or tour operator. Our shows provide an ideal environment for the industry to meet face-to-face with a high quality targeted audience which can bring tangible benefits in this tough trading environment.”

The Holiday & Travel Show Manchester will be held at Manchester Central (formerly GMEX) from 16th to 18th January 2009 and the Glasgow Holiday & Travel Show will be held at the SECC from 13th to 15th February 2009 (opening times 10 am - 5 pm).
